A System for Eye Movement Tracking

This Bachelor’s thesis discusses possibilities and applications of the eye movement tracking system, including currently available products on the market. The thesis then introduces the solution of such eye tracking system. It includes the design and realisation of the camera holder for secure grip of the camera. The thesis includes the realisation of the software written in C/C++ using Visual Studio and OpenCV libraries. This application consists of eye tracking, testing and evaluation processes. As a part of the thesis, the testing of the created system was performed and evaluated. The thesis also evaluates the properties of the created system and discusses possible extensions.

Umožňuje oboznámiť sa so súčasnými ako aj historickými spôsobmi vyhodnocovania smeru pohľadu a ich využitím v rôznych oblastiach života. V práci sú opísané a vysvetlené základné princípy týchto metód. Súčasťou práce je taktiež popis realizovaného systému a princípu jeho funkcie. Práca taktiež obsahuje analýzu výsledkov testu systému na skupine dobrovoľníkov a zhodnotenie jeho funkcie.
Design and implementation of eye tracking system

The aim of this thesis is to design and implement an eye tracking system. Eye tracking is a technology that allows for the measurement and analysis of eye movements and gaze behavior, providing insights into attention, perception, and cognitive processes. The thesis discusses the necessary theory related to eye tracking, including an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the human eye, as well as the different types of eye tracking, methodologies, applications, and more. For the practical part of this work, a solution design was created, which served as the basis for the implementation of both the hardware and software components. A dataset was collected, consisting of videos capturing eye images and their movements. Subsequently, the dataset was analyzed using the developed software solution, and the results of the individual analysis components were discussed.

The goal of this project is to design the real-time eye movement tracking system, realise it and perform measuring on several subjects to verify its functionality and precision. The eye movement tracking system consists of a camera attached to the camera holder mounted on subject´s head. The camera captures the eye of the subject and the measuring software detects the iris. The software then calculates the location the subject is looking at using the input video of the eye, the calibration results and the head movement measuring device.
